At the moment, I am a Lead consultant Healthcare for CSC The Netherlands and am also involved in organizational change programmes within the Corporation. In general, my career has focused on the development and implementation of new technology. In IT, I focus on new architectural approaches such as distributed systems, on standardization of information models (e.g. according to ISO/CEN 13606 or HL7 version 3) and their automated implementation in entreprise systems. During my scientific career this was done by advanced electrophysiological and biophysical methods in a variety of technological experimental setups, such as patch clamp, fluorescence microscopy and various recombinant genetic approaches. I started my professional career during my Master of Science program in Medical Biology where I did three 9-months research projects, including a project in the USA. After I came back from the States, I started my 4-year PhD research in Cell Biology where I did fundamental cancer research. Hereafter, I moved to the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London for a postdoc on Cell Biophysics. My regular scientific career ended after a two-year period at the department of Neuriophysiology in Amsterdam when I ventured into the hectic life of Information Technology. The first couple of years in IT where characterized by learning the trade quickly and, stimulated by the difficult position of the IT market in 2001, fast changing of jobs. Starting in object-oriented programming, I moved quickly to being a healthcare consultant specialized in business intelligence and messaging in helath care, mostly the care and cure sectors. I did this work shortly as an employee, then I moved on to being a freelance consultant after which I started a company called The Beagle Armada, together with 2 other partners. In the course of 2006, I decided to gradually diminish my involvement in The Beagle Armada, and started a new company in Health and Bioinformatics, called The Syncyte Biointelligence which started in 2007. During the start-up of Syncyte, I came to realize that acquisition in the Life Sciences is difficult and sales is not something I want to focus on. Also, my interest in the Life Sciences is mainly focused on doing research, which I can do without having to earn money from it. So I decided to focus on ICT in Healthcare and to do what I like: business-IT alignment in Healthcare. Lately, I also act as consultant strategic operations within some organizational change programs within CSC. |
